I am strong

You’d think that if you made a particular mistake before, you’d not repeat it, right? Especially when you felt the consequences, the bodily effects, the mental challenge, the emotional toll, and the dreadful days after.

If you went through it once, it is understandable, to a certain limit, that the mistake happens again. You are only human after all. And, in time you may have forgotten how bad the experience was because time tends to erase the sharpest edges of bad memories. Like the song goes “memories, sweeten through the ages just like wine.

Let’s not forget temptation because what if now you are convinced you can handle it better? You learned your lesson, you are now stronger, wiser, more experienced? So you may try again not anticipating that in fact, the consequences are worse than before. You may feel you are strong to challenge the odds but time may not have made you wiser.

Stubborn as you are, you did pick up the remote again and watched Captain America till after midnight. And as a result of the action you could not sleep again, reading didn’t get you drowsy even though you tried till past 2am, and desperate for sleep, turned off the lights, cursed at the moon, promising your aching brain you will never do this again. But first I need to finish watching Cap’s trilogy.

Seriously, why?

The next challenge for #Bloganuary is to interview a fictional character. That’s a great topic but it needs more time than just one day. What to do?

I started to write down questions I have for several fictional people of Middle Earth.

For example, from Lord of the Rings, Aragorn:

When Helms Deep was under attack, you ordered a volley of arrows first. Instead of following up with another, preferably, cross-fired volley, you charged. Why charge without the cover of another volley?

But then I started to think about Auntie Corona who has overstayed her house-visiting welcome by roughly two years now.

A: So why did you assume it was ok to show up here with just an overnighter while you knew you were going to hang around for two-three years?

C: I didn’t think you’d notice as y’all were too busy playing politics. And I didn’t intent to stay.

A: Then what was you plan? Do tell!

C: I just wanted to shake you up and show you the awesome powers of nature, get you to respect boundaries again, and bring back the days that mankind used its brainpower to advance life for all people.

A: You think we do this life-thing wrong?

C: That’s why I have stayed a little longer, dear.

Then I thought about all the people who died from Covid19, deleted this post, recreated it, and spent time thinking about an assignment that was challenging but needed more time.

A: So you finally got what you wanted. A challenging prompt!

Also A: But I don’t have time today to properly write a dialogue or an interview!

A: Well, don’t you have a draft laying around somewhere of a piece you never finished?

Also A: Yes, several but none of these people are fictional. You have heard of libel, right?

A: Always so serious, you really are a bore.

Also A: Oh, yeah, smarty-pants? That makes you boring too!

So now me, myself, and I are struggling to get along. That means it is time to make a cup of tea. See you all tomorrow with hopefully a prompt that doesn’t disturb the peace here.

Time Travel

They want time travel
but who has time to travel
or travel in time?

Travel provisos
then there’s time limitations
and destinations.

Local restrictions
then and now and later on
is it really safe?

How do we return?
The travel method unknown
does not instill trust.

I’d need to know more
before considering it
I know, I’m a bore.

His skin white as milk.
With one short, swift, smooth movement,

Parting flesh coloring red
unfolding like a flower.
Holding tight the knife
feeling his warm skin unfold
he sighed only once.

A flash of regret
she watched how his blood trails joined
for the dance of death.
